Abstract

The xylose use by yeasts as carbon source for obtaining SCP is the purpose of this study. The yeasts involved in this study were isolated from Brazilian biomes (Cerrado and Atlantic Forest). This study includes an initial screening, where nineteen yeasts will be grown in synthetic medium containing xylose as carbon source. From the results will be chosen three strains, taking into account the amount of protein obtained from cell mass. For the three yeasts will be developed an optimization study using the experimental design. The dependent variables of this optimization are the following parameters: (a) temperature, (b) agitation (rpm) and (c) concentration of xylose in the culture medium. The response variable is the amount of protein obtained from cell mass. The specific growth rate (¼ max) for the yeasts chosen will also be obtained in this study. The project also evaluate the performance of yeast in relation to the levels of cellular protein when grown in culture medium industry (bagasse hydrolyzate). The yeasts are identified using molecular biology techniques (AU)
