Abstract

Several optimization methods based on heuristics, such as Particle Swarm Optimization, have been implemented successfully in various fields of knowledge. In particular, the inclusion of this type of optimization methods in the electromagnetic device design are becoming popular because they involve a large amount of decision making in order to obtain a good final product. To achieve this, reliable methods of numerical calculation of electromagnetic fields are often required, as for example the Finite Element Method (FEM). In this project, we seek to combine the FEM analysis capacity and the simplicity and robustness of a new optimization method, based on the movement of bats, recently proposed by Yang. The project will be developed in JAVA platform and will seek to compare the performance of this new method with respect to classical strategies, also of stochastic nature, as for example, genetic algorithms and particle swarm optimization.
