Abstract

Colon and rectum cancer is now the third type of cancer with the highest number of deaths in the United States. The occurrence of this cancer in a patient under 60 years indicates a genetic predisposition to the disease and therefore an increased risk of occurrence of new cases among first-degree relatives of patients. For this reason institutions like the American College of Gastroenterology, American Cancer Society, The U.S.Multi-Society Task Force on Colorectal Cancer, and the American College of Radiology developed in the United States, guidelines for medical procedures in the completion of screening for colorectal cancer. Among these conducts the American College of Gastroenterology suggests in his guideline colonoscopy as the screening tool most suitable to be held in first-degree relatives of patients diagnosed with cancer of the colon and rectum before age 60. The intention is to evaluate how the doctors of the ICESP that lead with patients with cancer of the colon and rectum adhere to the recommendation to appoint a colonoscopy for first-degree relatives of patients diagnosed with colorectal cancer before age 50.(AU)
