Abstract

Nisin is widely used as a natural preservative for it has microbial activity on spores germination and Gram-positive bacteria. It is potentially used for dental and pharmaceutical products as a therapeutic agent in the treatment of stomach ulcers and intestinal infections of the colon in immunodeficient patients. The method of separation by Mixed micellar systems in two aqueous phases explores characteristics that some micellar systems have, such as when the method is under certain conditions, it can spontaneously separate into two aqueous immiscible phases. It is widely used to purify and concentrate compounds such as bacteriophages, antibiotics, enzymes and organic compounds. The present work aims on extracting the commercial nisin by aqueous two-phase micellar system and study nisin stability profile in commercial cosmetic bases. Stability studies are necessary for all pharmaceutical products as an integral part of the development of dosage forms and to provide information about the performance of the product in terms of the environmental conditions that it has possibly been submitted, at a period of time. The obtained information are used determine the shelf life of drugs and products, and also to determinate the recommendations of the storage facilities. (AU)
