Abstract

The Sugarcane crop has increasing importance in the last decade in Brazil and around the world, mainly because increased ethanol demand, higher oil and sugar prices, and global warming concerns. The expansion areas occur mainly in fields requiring supplementary irrigation for sugarcane crop reach economically viable yields. The knowledge of sugarcane water requirements use efficiency is important to estimate real crop water requirements, helping to plan and the decision support. The project focus on the study of sugarcane water consumption using through different methods in different spatial scales, such as sap flow by heat balance (plant scale), Bowen ratio method (field scale) and the leaf gas exchange by IRGA measurements (leaf scale). Besides the study of mass and energy exchanges in sugarcane crop, it is expected to provide the crop coefficient along the cycle of growth and systematize the produced knowledge in a sugarcane crop model.
