Assessment of diet cation-anion balance (DCAB) the production and quality of buffalo milk

Abstract

The diet cation-anion balance (DCAB) has several effects on animal metabolism, being one of them the lactational performance. Thus, we have aimed to carry out the assessment of dietary cation-anion balance (DCAB), production and quality of buffalo milk. This way, three experiments will be conducted during the years 2012 and 2013 in São Paulo. The first experiment will be held in the year 2012, in the University of Animal Science and Food Engineering, University of São Paulo (USP-FZEA), located in the city of Pirassununga. Twenty - seven lactating buffaloes will be used from the Coordination of the Campus of Pirassununga (CCPS), divided into three categories of milk production (Group A-High, Group B - average and Group C-low), block design with lot of animals, with nine animals, each category will receive three types of treatments (three animals per treatment), with DCAB levels of +220, +440 and +660 mEq / kg dry matter (DM), the DCAB will be estimated by determining the diet mineral , in which the sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3), the Sodium chloride (NaCl) and the potassium chloride (KCl), will be used to adjust the minerals' values. The animals will be evaluated by the weight and body condition score, production and quality of milk, every 15 (fifteen) days through the collection of samples of milk and blood of buffaloes. In the milk will be performing physical-chemical and microbiological analysis and blood urea, pH, will be held glucose, protein (plasma) and concentrations of minerals (serum). The obtained values will be subjected to analysis of variance (ANOVA). Statistical analysis will be performed using the statistical software SAS (Statistical Analysis System), and the variables the PROC GLM, and if necessary, will be regression conducted analysis, considering the levels of DCAB (+220, +440 and +660 mEq / kg DM). For the variables related to the analysis of blood (plasma and serum), PROC MIXED will be used, considering the fixed effects of DCAB, stage of lactation that was done (beginning, middle and end). Besides the interaction of X DCAB evolution stage, such as the random effects of animal and residual. In case of significant results for the main effect of DCAB the regression analysis will be used. In case of significant results for the main effect of the lactation stage the Duncan's test will be used a multiple comparison procedure. Yet in case of significant interaction the split levels of DCAB, will be held inside each phase of lactation. In this case, regression analysis will be performed for each stage of lactation. A significance level of 5% will be used. In the second experiment a monthly assessment of the nutritional profile (DCAB), production and quality (physico-chemical and microbiological) of buffalo milk will be performed in the central region of São Paulo on five farms in the cities of Dourado, Ribeirão Preto, Bocaina, Santa Rita do Passa Quatro and São João da Boa Vista, during the year 2012, and will be used five animals per farm, and data conducted in 2013 in one of five farms in the second experiment, the selection criteria will be the best control of management. The buffaloes will be the divided by age group, in group 1 (primiparous - 3 to 4 years), group 2 (5-8 years) and group 3 (over 9 years), each group with six animals. The farms equaly will be divided by lot and submitted the two best treatments, detected in the first experiment, being evaluated the same parameters, frequencies and all the statistical analysis in the first experiment.
