Abstract

Probiotics are dietary supplements constituted of live microorganisms or microbial cells components that are benefic to the health of the host. Since probiotics consumption seems to assist in eliminating of yeasts of Candida genus and in recovering of immune balance, this work aims to study, in vivo and in vitro, the immunomodulatory and antimicrobial anti-Candida actions of Lactobacillus rhamnosus, considered a probiotic species. For this, suspensions of Candida will be inoculated in the oral cavity of experimentally immunosuppressed mice for induction of candidosis. The animals shall be divided into four groups: the) with induction of candidosis without consuming probiotic, b) with induction of candidosis, with consumption of probiotic since 14 days before inoculation of Candida, c) with induction of candidosis with probiotic consumption during the inoculation of Candida, d) without inducing candidosis with probiotic consumption throughout the period of experimentation. Development and recovery of disease shall be histologically investigated. Serum samples will be collected from animals to analyze of INF-gamma, TNF-±, ² IL-1, IL-4, IL-6, IL-10, IL-12 and total immunoglobulins, by ELISA technique.
