Abstract

The gene encoding TCTP (Translationally Controlled Tumour Protein) is present in all eukaryotes and its product is involved in different cellular processes. Although well characterized in mammals, there are few data available in the literature related to the analysis of this protein in plants. Thus, the aim of this work is the characterization of the gene encoding TCTP in plants, taking the tomato plant (Solanum lycopersicum cv. Santa Clara) as the experimental model. The objective of this project is to investigate the expression of this gene in different organs / tissues along the plant development as well to analyze the impact of overexpression of tomato TCTP in transgenic tobacco. Based on studies showing that, in some species, the control of the synthesis of homologous proteins to TCTP does not occur only at the transcriptional level, the aim is also to correlate gene expression with the accumulation of the protein in such organs/tissues.
