Abstract

The main objective of this project are studying and developing methods for the determination of As in fertilizer by atomic absorption spectrometry with hydride generation (HG AAS) and graphite furnace (GF AAS) for quality control of products and raw materials. Different methods of sample preparation will be investigated: analyte extraction using closed vessel microwave oven system and ultrasonic bath. The heating program for digestion in microwave oven, the ultrasonication time, the influence of particle size, as well as the conditions of AAS operation are some of the parameters to be studied. A certified reference material (Trace elements in multi-nutrient fertilizer - SEM 695) of the National Institute of Standard & Technology will be used for optimization and to evaluate the accuracy of the proposed method.
