Abstract

The use of lasers for analytical purposes is increasing as a function of the growing demand for sustainable procedures based on the principles of Green Chemistry. In this sense, Raman spectroscopy is one of the techniques has been standing out due to its interesting features for nondestructive direct analysis (no sample preparation is needed), high selectivity, and chemical and structural information. Taking into account the potential of Raman technique, this technique will be studied for the determination of N and P in fertilizers. The study of the behavior of phosphoric and phosphorous acids, urea, nitrate and ammonium in aqueous media by Raman spectroscopy may be useful for the qualitative determination of the species. If a quantitative analysis by Raman was unfeasible, Raman will be combined with the high-resolution continuum source molecular absorption spectrometry (HR-CS MAS) for qualitative and quantitative analyses, respectively. If feasible, HR-CS MAS and Raman will be employed to determine N and P contents and also identifying the nature of the N and P compounds in the sample, respectively.
