Abstract

The main risk factor for tuberculosis (TB) reactivation in HSCT recipients is to live in regions with high endemicity. The incidence of TB in Brazil is 38.2 per 100,000 inhabitants per year. Post transplant immunosuppression favors the reactivation of latent TB infection (LTBI) and a higher incidence of tuberculosis is expected in this group of patients in comparison to general population. No prospective study has evaluate the incidence and morbimortality of TB in this setting. The present study aims to compare the classical techniques (baciloscopy and culture) with molecular techniques (comercial real time PCR) for the diagnosis of TB in clinical samples from a cohort of HSCT recipients.
