Abstract

Many mollicutes are seen as constituting the healthy individual normal microflora. However, some were also associated with urogenital infections, complicating the understanding of the role of these species. Some factors are considered when assessing its pathogenic potential. In female urogenital tract, species of Mycoplasma and Ureaplasma are also commonly implicated as causing infections, changes perigestacionais and reproduction disorders such as infertility, miscarriage, stillbirth, premature births and underweight children. Some studies have reported the cytokine polymorphisms with relation to the colonization of microorganisms in the female genital tract. Based on these data, the aims of this study were detect Mycoplasma hominis, M. penetrans and M. genitalium and relate to genetic polymorphism and cytokine expression in sexually active women with or without genital disorders in Vitória da Conquista, Bahia. The total sample of this study will be composed of 300 women, being 200 with genital disorder and 100 without symptoms. Cervical swab and peripheral blood samples will be collected. The cervical samples will be used for detection of Mycoplasma hominis, M. penetrans and M. genitalium using PCR and Real Time PCR. Blood samples will be used for polymorphisms and cytokine evaluation. There is no known incidence of these bacteria in the urogenital tract of the population being studied, as well, the genetic polymorphism of cytokines in patients infected with mycoplasmas and ureaplasmas. This study is expected to provide data for a preventive action in the spread of these microorganisms, promoting the reduction of costs with genital infections.
