Abstract

Learning difficulties may be lasting or temporary and lead to school dropout, disapproval, low income, delay in learning time and need for expert help. The identification and treatment of difficulties in oral and written language are important to the student's academic success, however, teachers are not always able to identify these deficits or to refer the student for specialist treatment. Other health professionals can act as agents identifiers of these individuals and then make referrals to a specialist team. Within this perspective, the dentist could be considered the professional of health with conditions to contribute for the perception of problems related to oral and written language and then refer these individuals to diagnosis and intervention with a multidisciplinary team, prepared to deal with such changes. The aim of this study is verify if students in Dentistry, at the end of graduation, realize the presence of problems in oral and written language, identified or not by the family.
