Abstract

The teachers' knowledge about children's communication and its disorders is restricted. Considering the proximity and bond they establish with the schoolchildren they play an important role both in the development of communication and in the early detection of related disorders. The teachers, together with the parents, are responsible for referring schoolchildren to pediatricians, as well as speech therapists. Thus, this study was designed with the following objectives: to verify the knowledge and possible conduct of future educators about human communication and its disorders; and to evaluate the effect of a Speech therapy orientation programs offered to Pedagogy courses senior students. Since, Speech therapy orientation program are very important as they contribute to improving classroom practice conditions and early detection of communication disorders. This is a longitudinal, prospective, descriptive study based on the analysis of the answers of a questionnaire before and after participation in the Speech Therapy Orientation Program for Pedagogy courses senior students of private institutions in the city of Ribeirão Preto. The sample group will consist of approximately 150 undergraduates. The questionnaire to be applied was prepared by the researchers and will be validated by a group of 10 teachers, with multiple choice questions about the topics of study. The program will consist of four biweekly meetings, lasting approximately 2 hours, to be held during class periods, previously provided by the subject teacher. The topics to be worked on will be: oral language and speech/stuttering; written language; hearing and voice.
