Abstract

The health area students' attitudes are studied in view of the interprofessional learning, in order to promote collaborative teamwork strengthening and to improve the professional formation and health care quality. The study has the aim of validating the version adapted to the Portuguese language of the "Questionnaire of measurement of readiness for interprofessional learning and professional identity of health students". It substantiates the completion of the process of cross-cultural adaptation of the instrument to be used in researches allowing to condense the knowledge on interprofessional education (IPE) on the Brazilian context, in comparison with other cultural contexts, as well as in evaluation studies of the IPE initiatives in the country. The quantitative approach, of the transversal type, is used with methodological rigor because it is dealing with the validation of a questionnaire adapted to the Portuguese language, with verification of the psychometric properties of the translated document. The population is constituted by students of the third and fourth years of the ten undergraduate courses of the health area at the Universidade de São Paulo (Physical Education, Nursing, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Speech-Language Therapy, Medicine, Nutrition, Dentistry, Psychology, and Occupational Therapy) totalizing 838 students during the first semester of 2011. The sample will be stratified by course proportionally to its size, and the sample size is estimated in 348 students. The translated questionnaire includes two validates scales: Readiness for Interprofessional Learning Scale - RIPLS (Parsell, Bligh, 1999, Bligh, Mattick, 2009) which assesses the readiness of the health area students to interprofessional learning, and Professional Identity Scale (PIS) by Brown et al (1986) which measures the professional identity scores. The instrument is self applied, and is complied by four sessions: the first one investigates the contact level among students of different courses: the second one is the RIPLS; the third one studies the social status scores attributed by undergraduate students to the different health professions; and the fourth session is the PIS. Factor analysis, analysis of variance (ANOVA), and Cronbach coefficient will be used. The stability of the questionnaire measurement, and of the two scales that are part of it, will be tested through the test-retest reliability procedure in a sample of students, with an interval of one week on the application of the instrument.
