Abstract

The Dengue virus (DENV) is part of the family of viruses called flaviviruses, which are viruses transmitted by arthropods, in the case of Dengue, transmitted by mosquitoes of the genus Aedes, especially the Aedes aegypti species.Especially in times of outbreaks, due to the high number of cases, the need for invasive collection of blood for the diagnosis of dengue, the high costs of the tests used in public health protocols that require a relatively long time to get the results, are factors that hinder the early detection of dengue wich may compromise the control of the disease. The nonstructural protein 1 (NS1) is secreted by cells infected with dengue in the acute phase of infection (febrile period of eight days). This protein can be identified in the patient's blood whose test confirmed the diagnosis of the disease. This study will evaluate the possibility of saliva to be used for diagnosis by identifying this protein. The sample will consist of 100 individuals, 50 patients with dengue blood test positive for the disease and 50 healthy patients with dengue blood negative for the disease. In 100 samples from individuals there will be stimulated and unstimulated saliva. The saliva will be stored and frozen in "ependorfs" at -80oC, and the time in between the collection and the use of samples will not exceed 30 days. To identify the NS1 protein in the saliva it will be used the rapid test "NS1 Ag Strip" (BioRad) and to confirm the presence of Dengue virus in saliva, the RT-PCR and ELISA.Descriptive analysis will be done through tables and graphs and the results will be tabulated, compared and submitted to to chi-square.
