Abstract The 1960´s is characterized as a time of deep transformations in world societies especially in America and Europe. One of the major changes of this period was the manner the environment was seen and discussed, both in academic forums and in public opinions (McCormick, 1992). Since then, the idea that the development model used so far, industrialism, would no longer be able to stand. Economic growth would not be the ultimate objective of development, because nowadays comprise others questions resulted from social and environmental area (Sachs, 2009a and 2009b; Veiga, 2010). This new development paradigm was characterized as sustainable. Within this debate, biofuels emerged as an alternative to fossil and non-renewable fuels (BIONDI et al, 2009). Brazil is internationally recognized for its sugar cane ethanol production. Thus, the proposal of this study consist to know the socio-technical network constituted around this biofuel in the state of São Paulo, analyzing the actors, their alliances and interests, to describe about the sustainability criteria present or absent in the social representations of such actors. | |
