Abstract

Boethius wrote a series of theological treatises. The one which interests us directly became known as de Hebdomadibus, because of an esoteric textual reference to the number seven, which one does not know for certain if it was the number of days that he discussed with an interlocutor, or still, maybe, the number of fundamental axioms necessary for the discussion of his question (though there are nine axioms, they can be reduced to seven). The question which animates our research is the consolidation of the philosophic vocabulary of being, by means of the latinization of Aristotle by the neoplatonism of late antiquity; in this Boethius is the main representative, as his most original work: the little treatise de Hebdomadibus, which is precisely about the question of how can substances be good in virtue of the fact that they have being when they are not substantial goods.
