Abstract

The Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus L.), widely used in aquaculture, stands out for its many qualities to the consumer market. As with other fish species, muscle development can be influenced by several factors (extrinsic and intrinsic) and may well lead to compromise and production costs. Periods of climate change (seasonal periods) and periods of food deprivation, which occur naturally, can decrease the growth rate, however, these periods may occur after a rapid growth of the animal, called compensatory growth. Thus the objective is to evaluate the compensatory growth of Nile tilapia strains of GIFT, Supreme Red, and submitted to two growth temperatures: cold (22°C) and temperature (~ 28°C), taking into consideration the following objectives specific: a) establish the growth curves of weight according to age, evaluating different models of growth curves, b) evaluate the morphology of muscle tissue (white muscle), characterizing and determining the degree of occurrence of hyperplasia and hypertrophy of fibers c) evaluate the expression of genes that control muscle growth, such as the myogenic regulatory factors MyoD and myogenin and the growth factor myostatin, by Polymerase Chain Reaction after Real Time Reverse Transcription (qRT-PCR). The experiment will be conducted in Presidente Prudente - SP - APTA. Fingerlings (1g), the three strains are grown in two recirculation systems. In one system, the water temperature is maintained at 22 ° C for a period of 30 days. In another system the water will be kept at room temperature (~ 28 ° C) throughout the experimental period. After 30 days, will be carried out sampling of fish from both systems and all the strains. 10 animals will be sampled for each strain and each culture system (22°C and room temperature). The remainder of the fish of both systems will be grown at room temperature up to 120 days of cultivation. In this period there will be a final sample. The data will be analyzed as a completely randomized design with treatments in a factorial 2 x 3 x 2 (temperature X lineage X age), with 10 repetitions, each fish was the experimental unit. The data is analyzed by computer package SAS for Windows version 8.01. (AU)
