Abstract

This project exposes and discusses some possibilities of organizing timbre material related to instrumental ensembles. Starting from different historical conceptions of the instrumental organization in the twentieth century, we propose a detailed study of orchestral timbre and subsequently the development of a formal model for the analysis and composition with a focus on timbre space. As an artistical counterpart and ultimate goals of the project we intend to devote substantial time to the creation of some musical works that make use of the proposed model. (AU)
