Abstract

The freshwater shrimp farming has been recognized as a way for the production of crustaceans with low environmental impact. Among the Brazilian species, Macrobrachium amazonicum deserve feature due to its geographical distribution. The development of production technologies of this kind is based on management techniques, which include feeding the animal, being necessary to the understanding of the digestive process. The hepatopancreas is responsible for the production of digestive enzymes and assimilation of nutrients, but little is known about the function and / or morphology of different cell types present in the hepatopancreatic epithelium of Macrobrachium amazonicum. The objective of this work is to check the period of the digestive cycle in Macrobrachium amazonicum, accompanied by a study of cellular dynamics of the hepatopancreatic epithelium with regard to cellular distribution along the tubule, in the different responses of different times after feeding. This study will provide scientific support for testing different feeding periods of this species, when cultivated on a commercial scale.
