Abstract

The predatory exploration of natural resources in Brazil, as well the rudimentary techniques used for wood processing, especially sawmill, woodworking and furniture industry, aids the increase of the amount of waste generated. But the growing of industrial demand for forest resources can be valuable in construction, the furniture industry, since it is made in a rational and balanced way. Within this context the use of wood waste in the manufacture of homogeneous particleboards is another alternative for the development of value-added products with a high profit potential. Thus, considering the technical feasibility observed in the previous studies of undergraduate researches using particleboards in the various segments of building or furniture industry, we intend to produce a prototype with the purpose of deepen these studies. In addition, we intend evaluating the applicability of the particleboards for flooring and walls. The particleboards for the prototype will be manufactured from waste wood from reforestation areas in the region of São Carlos/SP, as well waste wood obtained in sawmills and joinery and local industries, on a laboratory scale, with so-called homogeneous particles; the particleboards will be manufactured according with the national and international standardization (U.S.A and Canada). We expected achieving the estimated results to confirm the viability of using these particleboards in the coating market.
