Abstract

The engineered wood products have shown increased development, especially in the late twentieth century, to become an interesting alternative for many applications, both for structural elements as components of the building reaching the furniture industry and packaging. Adding to this growing technological development, it comes the need for rational use of raw materials, seeking different ways to almost full utilization of industrially processed wood. However, mechanical processing of wood although technologically advanced it still generate losses of raw material. Searching take advantage of waste generated in the processing of logs and wood pieces this proposal arises to utilize such wastes to produce particle boards by varying the pressing time to assess the occurrence of variations in the physical and mechanical properties of the panels, and so observe the possibility of reducing energy consumption which is very high in this step. The panels will be produced particles in three layers, with smaller particles in the superficial layers and larger inside the panel and as a result, will be held the physical-mechanical meeting the specifications of the normative document NBR 14.810/2006.
