Abstract

Transformer modeling can be obtained by using a simple electrical circuit involving a series of parameters, which will represent the different physical phenomena involving these devices, such as the Joule effect, the leakage fluxes and magnetization losses in the core. The calculations of the values of these parameters may involve some approximations, valid in many cases, such as in power transformers. In the case of special transformers, those approximations are no longer valid. In this project, we seek to use optimization methods to determine, as accurately as possible, the parameters of the complete model of special-purpose transformers by minimizing the error between the model established and some experiments. The experimental measurements could be obtained by two different methods in this work: the first one assumes that there is an existing equipment in a laboratory, so traditional measurements are performed to calculate the parameters. The second approach is the adoption of a virtual laboratory, by using a software based on the Finite Element Method. Particular emphasis will be given to a class of transformers: the transcutaneous energy transmitters, which uses electromagnetic fields to transfer electric power from outside of the body to an artificial organ inside the body.
