Abstract

Parkinson's Disease is the second most common neurodegenerative disease, and affects around 17/100.000 individuals. The most important symptoms are rigidity, rest tremor, bradicinesia, freezing and postural instability. Nowadays, the diagnose of Parkinson's Disease occurs when the first symptoms appears, usually on the fifth decade of life. Despite its incidence, the etiology is still unknown, but it is believed that genetic, environmental and endogenous factors are related. The objective of the present study is to assess brain alterations in Parkinson's Disease through Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI) and resting state functional magnetic resonance - rs-fMRI.Patients with Parkinson's Disease will be selected. The subjects will be submitted to a neurologic exam, application of the UPDRS scale and magnetic resonance imaging scans. Patients will be monitored for at least 12 months, and the data obtained in the assessments will be stored for statistical analysis.
