Abstract

This research aims to analyze the productive spatial circuit and the cooperation circles of organic coffee in the municipality of Patrocinio /MG. It is assumed that the production of organic coffee can mitigate the vulnerability that coffee commodity producers are heavily subjected. However, as large companies of roasting and grinding have appropriate organic coffee market, mainly, from the last decade, this has behaved again as a commodity.Originally, production of organic coffee takes on characteristics of a species of anticommodity, due to the qualitative differentiation of product and the privileged access to certain market niches. However, the standardization productive established by the certification companies have promoted a recommoditization of organic production, allowing large companies trading and roasting overriding suppliers, ending with the identity of the producers. This research proposes to examine, in the case of small producers of the municipality of Patrocinio (MG), linked to the Associação dos Pequenos Produtores do Cerrado (APPCER), as the production of organic coffee, together with Fairtrade certification, promotes or is not a de-commoditization of coffee production, allowing alternative forms of integration of small producers in the national and international markets.
