Abstract

Semiconductor nanowires have been widely investigated in the last decade due to possible applications associated with their geometry and physical properties. However, some issues related to the growth of nanowires, particularly those of III-V compounds, remain to be answered so that technological applications of these nano-objects can be accomplished. In this project we intend to study the growth of semiconductor nanowires of III-V compounds, particularly of ternary alloys and / or heterostructures, exploring their structural characterization and studying the resulting effects (such as shape, crystallographic orientation, optical and electrical properties, etc.). This work will be performed in search of new geometric and structural features that may be associated with different phenomena regarding thermal and electrical properties. To achieve this goal, the research methodology involves different techniques - epitaxy, electron and atomic force microscopies, microdevice processing, optical and electrical measurements, among others - to create a platform for testing the thermoelectric properties of nanowires obtained in our group.
