Abstract

Semiconductor nanowires have been widely investigated in the last decade due to possible applications related to their geometry and physical properties. Nevertheless, questions regarding the growth of nanowires, particularly those of III-V compounds, still need to be addressed so that the technological potential of these nano-objects can be fulfilled. In this project we intend to study the growth of III-V semiconductor nanowires, particularly of ternary alloys and/or heterostructured wires, exploiting their structural characterization and the resulting characteristics (shape, crystallographic orientation, optical and electrical properties, etc). This work will be carried out in search of new geometrical and structural features that allow applications of these nano-objects in sensor devices, with emphasis on biosensors. For this goal, the experimental methodology involves different techniques - epitaxy, electron microscopy and atomic force microdevices processing, optical and electrical measurements, among others - to create a platform for testing the nanowires obtained in our group.
