Abstract

The present study aims to examine the reconciling of work and family spheres among workers subject to flexible working time. The flexibility in labor relations, increasingly applied in today's society, affects, among others, the working day. Companies are allowed to reduce, extend, amend or divide the work hours of its employees. Characteristic of precariousness, part-time jobs spread, besides establishing varied work schedules, including at weekends and holidays. This flexibility concerns labor, but also falls on other spheres of life and social organization. Women are majority in activities that use these kinds of workday. The sexual division of labor distinguishes male and female work, whereas assigns greater value to the first. The reproduction sphere is still considered as women responsibility. Today´s strong presence of women in the group of employed people makes reconciling between the two spheres of life (productive and reproductive) appear as a challenge to them. How do they achieve this articulation, and more specifically, what is the effect of flexible working hours on it, should be examined. Our hypothesis is that family arrangements change faced with the new time standard settled by the world of work, following its logic.
