Abstract

The main goal of this project is the implementation of a computer simulation tool, Matlab-based, to predict the crosstalk in multi-conductor transmission lines. Typical examples of these lines are multi-conductor microstrip lines and parallel wire cables. In order to ease the understanding of the relationship between the geometry of the lines and the crosstalk phenomenon, simple closed-form expressions are to be used in this implementation, allowing the user to easily identify and remedy the crosstalk problem to an acceptable level. Therefore, during the first year of the work, we intend to implement a graphical user interface to ease the input of the geometric parameters of the lines to be analyzed. Next, we will implement a Method of Moment routine to calculate the fundamental parameters necessary for the transmission line analysis. The continuation of this project, planned for the second year, will be concerned with the use of the aforementioned parameters in the method proposed by Clayton Paul, to analyze the crosstalk between weakly coupled transmission lines. Also, another method, proposed by Panicali, based solely on the coupling of the electric field at the terminations of the lines, will be investigated and its performance compared with Clayton Pauls's method.(AU)
