Abstract

Dental caries is one of the most common diseases in oral health and the study appears as fundamental and essential in the formation of a dentist. Although dental caries has been the object of study since ancient times, only with the advent of research conducted in the last decades of the century unfolded, in fact, its mechanism - and then the dynamics of the disease and its prevention that proved on different aspects of those who were accredited. Despite the importance of teaching Cariology in the formation of a general professional and committed to social needs, there are few works that explore this issue in dental education. The objective of this study is to map the teaching of Cariology in the country through a multimethod study that will explore the following areas: (1) the management and organization of teaching through desk reviews (curricular and learning programs) in schools Dentistry in Brazil; (2) the seizure and attitudinal pattern of dental students from different regions of Brazil on the subject through the application of Cariology Knowledge Questionnaire (QCC) and clinical case study, and (3) the philosophy of schools and the teaching itself through semi-structured interviews conducted with faculty coordinators subjects relating to the powers of the different regions and data from previous steps. The findings will be analyzed jointly (triangulation) to identify the Brazilian panorama of teaching karyology, in continuity with the work done during the master's candidate. (AU)
