Abstract

The bombardment by nobre gases results in a change in the arrangement of the crystalline lattice of the surface and, depending on the energy used, in its vicinity, thereby generating several properties (magnetic, mechanical, optical, etc.) different from those of the initial structures of the material. With this motivation, the this project aims to study the effect of ion bombardment on structural, optical and tribological of the mettalic materials studied, as well as its effects on the diffusion of nitrogen in plasma nitriding processes. The project includes the preparation of nanostructured surfaces by ion bobardment with noble gases and in situ studies of their effect on the surface by photoelectron spectroscopy of emitted X-rays (XPS). Other techniques will complement the ex situ study of the effects of the bombardment (e.g.: X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron and atomic force microscopy (SEM and AFM), and tribological tests). Finally, the effect of nanostructure surface on the diffusion of nitrogen in plasma nitrided samples will be studied.
