Abstract

In the field of synthetic metals, usually called in the literature organic/molecular conductors or charge-transfer salts, the most prominent examples are the quasi-one-dimensional systems of the series (TMTTF)_2X and (TMTSF)_2X, where TMTTF, TMTSF and X stand for tetramethyltetrathiafulvalene, tetramethyltetraselenafulvalene and monovalent anion (X = PF_6, AsF_6 or Br, for example), respectively. These materials offer an unique possibility for studying electronic correlation phenomena in a "clean" environment, since the ground states of these substances can be tuned either by chemical substitution and/or application of external pressure. The main goal of this scientific initiation project concerns on the exploration and understanding of the charge-ordered phase in salts of the (TMTTF)_2X series. For this purpose, measurements of transport, dielectric constant and pyroelectric coefficient will be carried out. (AU)
