Abstract Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a malignant neoplasm that occurs in the large intestine (colon) and rectum, which is the predominant histologic type of adenocarcinoma. This type of cancer is the second most common in Western countries and has high incidence in casuistry brazilians, mainly in the southeast and south, according to epidemiological studies from INCA. Regarding the colorectal cancer etiology, some factors are already well established and it's possible to cite age over 60 years, first-degree relatives with intestine cancer, genetic syndromes such as familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) and hereditary non polypoid Colorectal Cancer (HNPCC). Other factors as chronic inflammatory bowel disease (ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease), dietary factors and life habits also raise the risk of CRC. Genetic polymorphisms may influence the carcinogens metabolism favoring the development of tumors in this anatomical region. Some studies reveal that there isn't association between these cancers and polymorphisms in genes involved in CCR, such as CYP1A1 * 2A, CYP1A1 * 2C, CYP2E1 * 5B, CYP2E1 * 6, mEH exon 3 and mEH exon 4. This proposal has the objective of analyze the frequency of six polymorphisms of these genes and investigate the relationship between them and the clinical and pathological characteristics of patients. The individuals will be submitted to collection of peripheral blood genomic DNA extraction and molecular analysis. These data will be statistically analyzed and compared with the control group with no history of cancer. The results of this project will contribute to understanding the involvement of xenobiotic metabolism and sporadic colorectal cancer in the elucidation of the mechanisms that lead to carcinogenesis. | |
