Abstract

The power system transient stability study is focused on taking into account the actuation of FACTS devices named SVC and TCSC, observing how their action, one at a time, affects the power system performance. The FACTS device's influence on the system dynamics behavior has been mattering of study and the specialized literature has shown several interesting results. A major part of them focuses on the dynamic stability from the point of view of small-signal analysis, and those approach has conducted important results in performance analysis and tuning of the controllers in order to achieve system reliable dynamic operation. In the present approach, the aim is to study the influence of these devices which were originally designed to improve dynamic stability upon the system stability in face of great disturbances. Specifically, the effects of a compensation device upon the transient interactions between machines in a multimachine system environment will be considered. Previous results have shown separately the effects that an SVC or a TCSC upon the synchronizing capacity between machine pairs, by means of parameters named Effectiveness Coefficient and Effect Factor. The study of the influence of the FACTS devices on the system transient performance under the Factor point of view of Effectiveness Coefficient and Effect will be conducted focusing on their future use in procedures of power system performance analysis and tuning of the compensation device control parameters.(AU)
