Abstract

The supernatural presence in the literature has fascinated the public and it has created a universe of words in an opposite world diferente from the reality since the beginings of the wirtten registries. The phantasmagorical entities, the monsters, create into the reader´s imaginary a big numbers of possible interpretations, even though many of them presente many interpretations that reach na impossible deduction of a complete sense. Because of the imcompleteness of this work, the curent paper proposes an analysis of this literature aspect called fantastic as also its origins, the unfolding in the modernity and how it has etablished in the literary canon. The research was based on the fantastic production of the French writer Guy de Maupassant, an eminente figure from the 19 th century, and the Brazilian writer Lygia Fagundes Telles, a comtemporary from our days, in order to demonstrate how the gender has developed throughout the time since both are considered fantastic authors by the critique even with almost a century separating them.
