Abstract

The water demand knowledge is essential for new areas planning and, as well as for analyzing the economic viability of a culture in a region. Nowadays, crops has been highly used as alternative raw material. Among many, jatropha has been highlighting on national and international scenarios by the biodiesel production. The jatropha water demand is unknown, requiring to be studied in order to get more confinable irrigating parameters. Therefore, the objective of this study is to determine jatropha (Jatropha curcas L.) water demand throught lysimeters; also, determine separately the evapotranspiration's component. The determination will be accomplished using microlysimeters, equipment that measure soil evaporation (that is inside of lysimeter). So, transpiration will be determined by difference between evapotranspiration (determined by lysimeters) and evaporation (determined by microlysimeters). The project will be developed by Department of Biosystems Engineering at Fazenda Areão of "Luiz de Queiroz" College of Agriculture - USP, at Piracicaba SP. (AU)
