Abstract

The knowledge of the water demand of a culture is essential for planning of new areas, as well as for the economic viability analysis of a culture in a specific region. The use of crops for alternative feedstock sources has been extensively studied in the last years. Among many, jatropha (Jatropha curcas L.) has been highlighted for biodiesel production in the national and global scenarios. Water consumption by the jatropha is little known, which requires to be studied in order to increase the knowledge and provide reliable parameters for the irrigation practice. Therefore, the objectives of this study were to determine evapotranspiration and crop coefficient of jatropha in the third and fourth cycle, conducted with center pivot irrigation, drip irrigation and without irrigation at Piracicaba, SP. The project will be conducted in Areão Farm of College of Agriculture "Luiz de Queiroz" of USP during from September 2013 to April 2015. The experiment is divided into three treatments with two repetitions: center pivot irrigation, drip irrigation and without irrigation. The determination of ET will be with weighing lysimeters for each treatment, considering the inputs and outputs of mass into the system. The determination of Kc will be by the ratio between ET and ETo (estimated from data collected at the automatic meteorological station of Areão Farm). (AU)
