Abstract

This analysis consist in discuss the question of mood and atmosphere's representation in the literary work of Luandino Vieira (1935) starting from of the relation between mood and atmosphere with others structural elements such as characters and point of view. As the corpus of this research was chosen the book Lourentinho, Dona Antónia de Souza Neto & Eu. From this reading, the relation which these stories keep with the theories existing about the mood and atmosphere will be exposed. In this work, Luandino Vieira reconstructs Angola by the main characters' view that does not fit in the molds chosen by the society at the end of its colonization. It is intended to show how the mood and atmosphere assume an important paper in the characters' live, because it characterizes the narrative's construction and contributes to the psychological construction of the heroes since the changes of the environment they live delimit their thinking and acting. In this way, the characters are marked by a search of identity in a world that suffered European interference and, on the other hand, try to rebuild a different otherness that faces the cultures that create spaces of exclusion.
