Abstract

Tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which affects mainly the lungs and affects mostly the economically disadvantaged population. To control the disease was implemented DOTS strategy (Directly Observed Therapy Short-Course) as a means to control the disease. This strategy consists of five pillars, including the Directly Observed Treatment, which will be the object of this study. Its relevance is demonstrated by the fact that there are no publications related to this subject, confirmed by a review of literature by means of which revealed a shortfall in production of materials regarded to the coverage of this treatment modality. The study aims to analyze the Directly Observed Treatment in Ribeirão Preto/SP, from the period 1998 to 2010. This project proposes to conduct an exploratory study using quantitative and qualitative data. Quantitative analysis will be made of the simple frequency information through the software Statistica 9.0, Statsoft, and to conduct qualitative analysis we will proceed with documentary research and also Content Analysis, thematic modality. We hope that with the results in hand, we have subsidies to assist the planning of DOT and control of tuberculosis in Ribeirão Preto/SP.(AU)
