Abstract

Among unit operations found in protein purification procedures, precipitation by the addition of salts is perhaps the most widely used. For the design of precipitation operations, the key information is the protein solubility as a function of salt concentration in the liquid phase. This project aims to study the use of osmotic equations of state for the correlation of protein solubility curves as a function of salt concentration. The project must involve a literature review of available data on solubility, the establishment of relations between the parameters of an osmotic equation of state and solubility, and the correlation of data from the literature.(AU)
