Abstract

Ionic Liquids (ILs) are compounds formed by ions. Many ionic liquids are liquid at temperatures around 25°C. They also show physicochemical properties (low vapor pressure, high thermal stability, high viscosity, dissolution of various compounds, etc.) that make of them potential substances for a wide range of applications (electrochemical devices, catalysis, solvent for chemical reactions, etc.). Due to their interesting properties, ILs are being used as cosolvents in systems with biomolecules. Usually, ILs are applied to improve the stability and solubility of proteins in aqueous solution. Thus, investigating how ILs interact with proteins in aqueous solutions can lead to the optimization of the composition of the ions for these applications. In this project, we are going to understand how the presence of an extra ion and multiple electrolytes can influence protein solvation by ionic liquids. We are also going to analyze how the variation of the ionic force can disrupt (or not) the protein structure. (AU)
