We intend to analyse in which way Merleau-Ponty understood, in his all of his work, the problem of the "social". We´ve suggested that, in his Phenomenology of perception, Merleau-Ponty - following husserlian steps - comprehends the social as an appendix of the problem of intersubjectivity. However, this approach represents a difficulty rather than a proper solution: such a difficulty that will be correct by Merleau-Ponty in his later works. Along with that, we believe that, in his mid-phase texts, Merelau-Ponty will rewrite his doctrine of intersubjectivity in such a way that the "social" will no longer be an appendix of intersubjectivity, but rather precede it. This inversion is patrocinated, as we shall see, by the concept of institution, as formulated by Merleau-Ponty in 1955. (AU)
