Abstract

Children's Chronic non-progressive encephalopathy or cerebral palsy (CP) refers to a set of postural and motor manifestations which can or may not occur concomitantly the language difficulties, cognitive losses, visual, auditory, among others, depending on the site of injury and time of development in which it occurs. On compiled literature, individuals with CP have motor impairment related to the performance of tasks of language and behavioral problems. However, the literature is still scarce as to the behavioral profile and the correlation with the performance of expressive and receptive vocabulary. This study aims to: (1) characterize and compare the behavioral profile of individuals with CP and controls and (2) correlate the behavioral profile with performance on tests of the expressive and receptive vocabulary of individuals with CP. The study included 20 individuals of both genders, ages between 6 and 14 years old diagnosed with CP. The behavioral profiles of individuals with CP are compared to 20 individuals with the same chronological age and gender who have motor development and language typical. The behavioral profile is obtained through the behavioral inventory Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL)(Achenbach, 1991) version for parents. The performance of expressive vocabulary and receptive shall be determined by Part I of the Inventory of Development Communication Skills MacArthur (Teixeira, 2000), where parents will meet on the vocabulary of their children. The results will be analyzed using descriptive statistics and nonparametric.(AU)
