Abstract

Currently, nanotechnology is attracting great interest in several areas. Phosphors are luminescent materials with great industrial interest due to their extensive range of applications such as LEDs (light-emitting diodes), FEDs (field emission displays), and CRTs (cathode ray tubes), among others. The morphology, crystallinity, size, and distribution of the particles present a direct influence on the luminescent properties of these materials. ZrO2 nanoparticles have interesting optical properties and can be used in a variety of potential technological applications. Taking these facts, this project aimed to synthesize the ZrO2 and ZrO2: Eu+3 materials by microwave-assisted hydrothermal method. This method presents some advantages, such as lower time and temperature as synthesis conditions, as well as providing high rates of nucleation and low rates of growth.(AU)
