Abstract

Through IPHAN/SP's photography archive, specifically the first series of documents made by Herman Hugo Graeser - Germano - and the ones linked with the architecture that had been showed in the first paulista activity reports, this research claims to recognize how SPHAN constructed a referential archive of photographs to the Brazilian heritage. By the photography as a privileged medium to the documentation of popular manifestations, arts and, especially, architecture, this research searches the construction of this archive, responsible for the stabilization of a narrative. It stood out the archive as a potential place of legitimize a narrative, a speech, a memory, in this case, essentially to the understanding of the official narrative - the legitimated SPHAN's history - and, still, as determinative to be thought today, the future of history.
