Abstract

Business Process Management (BPM) has been highly disseminated and accepted in organizations because it is an approach that allows the combination of features of Information Technology (IT) to the process view. However, the BPM projects seek two goals of difficult conciliation: on the one hand, it pursues flexibility, in order to maintain the ability to change in response to unforeseen situations; on the other hand, it aims at specifying and formalizing organizational practices through business processes models. This research project has the objective of studying this conflictual relationship between flexibility and formalization on business processes modeling, pursuing the development of a methodology for analyzing flexibility in Business Process Management Systems (BPMS).(AU)
