Abstract

Brazil is a large country where most people live in urban centers, they face many challenges related to the provision of essential services such as education. In order to meet the demands generated by the increase of population in cities, where the issue of urban mobility becomes increasingly critical, cities need to become more sustainable and intelligent, and that means also finding solutions to the facilities of digital mobile technologies and network collaboration applications. Information and communication technologies have brought gradual and significant changes to the school in the last two decades and Distance Learning (ODL) has become the method of teaching the fastest growing in Brazil. The number of students of distance education courses jumped from 49,911 in 2003 (MEC / 2015) to 3.8 million (ABED, 2014). The growth of the installed base of devices with Internet access which allowed a greater diffusion of distance education in the last decade. The number of users of mobile devices with Internet access reached 72.4 million in the second quarter of 2015 and the improvement of quality of broadband services has changed the usage profile, video applications already were the third most used bringing the popularization OTT (Over-the-Top) services such as YOUTUBE and NETFLIX (NIELSEN / IBOPE, 2014). The Internet moves fast forward to be ubiquitous and mobile, but methodologies/processes used by online education platforms available in the market are based on the use of websites for PCs and they did not follow this change. This project aims to consolidate a online education platform called HXD GALILEO. This platform has the distinction of its flexibility for use in multiple screens, and supports multimedia content (over-the-top). The HXD GALILEO will be developed based on the HXD LUMIÈRE platform, which is an HXD product for delivery of digital audiovisual content on any connected screen with an interactive, personalized and flexible interface. The HXD LUMIÈRE is a research and development effort and it features a CMS (Content Management System) itself being able to manage the whole process of acquisition, storage, classification and monetization of content, providing content stored on the CMS for the different screens of mobile devices, Smart TVs and set-top boxes. The CMS is available as a cloud service and marketed in SaaS format (Software as a Service). The HXD LUMIÈRE was marketed for BANDEIRANTES TV, CLIMATEMPO TV, AMAZONSAT, HISTORY CHANNEL / AEOLE. The HXD GALILEO project is an integrated software platform consisting of the following components: a) GALILEO PLAY, designed to provide an attractive multimedia experience, interactive and automatically customized to the users in the various used devices; b) Galileo CLMS (Content Learning Management System), which provides a set of tools to support both teaching and learning, monitoring the development of skills, skills, attitudes and values, interaction with teachers; as storage management, distribution and use of content; c) HXD GALILEO CONNECTOR uses APIs / Web services to integrate with the administrative, financial and Content Delivery Network (CDN) used. Unlike other online learning solutions available in the market, HXD GALILEO innovates to be an integrated solution that is born ready for use on multiple screens. The CMS architecture be redesigned to also incorporate LMS functionality. With the implementation of Adaptive Learning resources, HXD GALILEO platform will monitor the activities of students, assessing the development of their skills, abilities, attitudes and values, creating an environment to deliver personalized content and providing elements to make the experience of learning more attractive.
