Abstract

The following research project aims to investigate the impact of the science teaching and the religion teaching on a child's moral education, selecting from the educational writings of John Locke, without disconsidering this philosopher's other writings. Thereunto, we will scan the theoretical references that have influenced the author of An Essay Concerning Human Understanding, as Montaigne's skepticism and English scientism as well as the reformist contribution to education. From Locke's point of view on the educational theory, it is about problematizing the relation, firstly controversial, that the author establishes between science and religion teaching to produce a certain moral formation. The research hypothetically assumes that with this kind of moral education, the author seeks the establishment of a Christian society, regarded by him as the only one capable to preserve the precept of the social contract.
