Abstract

Despite technological advances and mechanization of farming occurring in the last years, there is an expressive population of asses and mules in Brazil. Perhaps this population stability occurs due to the fact that these animals still play an important role in national agriculture, but also to the growing demand for these animals for sports, such as running tests, and for leisure, in cavalcades. These animals, even today, are used as the main means of transport for needy families and in many areas of difficult access. Carriers of monocarboxylate (MCTs) are important for the transport of lactate and H + ions through the plasma membrane into the plasma and are present especially in red blood cells and in the sarcolemma. Thus, these proteins participate effectively in the regulation of plasma and muscle pH during exercise. The technique of Western blotting characterized the expression of MCTs in RBCs. There are no reports of studies of these proteins carriers MCTs in lactate and other equines. Will be used 12 mules and 6 asses in order to characterize the expression of MCTs in erythrocytes, identifying possible variations between species and sexes.(AU)
